Personally, I would rather not develop a health problem in the first place.
There are some basic areas of health that are very instrumental in having a healthier, well functioning physiology. These same areas are usually pretty beat up when people first show up in the office.

These areas include:

Liver function

Immune system

Digestive strength

Toxicity

These areas gradually weaken over time due to the American diet, pollution, chemical and metal exposure, and use of OTC’s and prescriptions.

There is plenty you can do to keep these areas strong:

Eat real and whole food

Reduce/eliminate processed sugar

Don’t buy or use chemical-laden foods and products

Don’t buy or eat GMO foods

Exercise and stretch regularly

Reduce stress, or at least create time for yourself.

Even with these efforts, it is impossible to not be affected by our modern lifestyle and the environment that we live in. That’s why we have several prevention approaches to address these problems.

For example, once a year you should do a purification. Depending on your health history, you may benefit from our immune system cleaning and strengthening once or even twice a year. Everyone should do a gut flora restoration program at least once. The liver/gall bladder is instrumental and frequently congested when people first start here.

Why wait for that again? Get “your oil changed” annually. These are powerful avenues to preventing disease! And so easy to do. Just ask us for the details. Keeping well is just as important as getting well.

What's the Difference and Who Cares?

https://www.drtedhill.com/blogs/whats-the-difference-and-who-cares

https://www.drtedhill.com/blogs/whats-the-difference-and-who-cares#comments

Uncategorized

Most people that come to ELFP for help are taking supplements from their local grocery or drug stores. They may be using a protein powder to make smoothies. We have been told that they will help us in one way or another. Did you know that they can also cause problems?

It’s true that human beings need vitamins, minerals, protein, enzymes, and other nutrients to repair and maintain the body. The problem is that 99% of supplements you find on the shelves are synthetic. This means that they are made in a lab. They are not food. All vitamins are not created equal!

For example, a Vitamin C supplement can be synthetic or real. The most popular form of synthetic C is ascorbic acid, which comes from corn starch, corn sugar, or rice starch, and is chemically dependent upon volatile acids. Some manufacturers put “natural” on the bottle. This only means that 10% of the ingredients need to be real. The rest is synthetic. A real Vitamin C supplement has hundreds of parts to it including ascorbic acid, and comes only from food and plants. This is what makes it effective.

In the office, we have seen in some cases, the fatigue, toxicity, mental sluggishness, etc., have come from the synthetic supplements that patients have been on for years.
Why do they make and sell synthetic supplements? We’ll give you one guess….money.
It’s cheaper and easier to make synthetic supplements. Whole food supplements require food from a reputable organic farm. Processing is careful so as to not destroy the live, delicate enzymes that are a vital part of the supplement. These are not found in synthetic supplements…at all…ever.

Eventually, synthetic supplements take a toll on the body. If you are taking a protein powder or supplement that hasn’t been tested on you, bring them to your next appointment. We will see if they are helping you or hurting you.

So, that is the difference between the imposters and the real thing.

Who cares? Your body does!

And so should you.

Chemicals Are All Around Us-How To Help Your Body Heal

https://www.drtedhill.com/blogs/chemicals-are-all-around-us-how-to-help-your-body-heal

https://www.drtedhill.com/blogs/chemicals-are-all-around-us-how-to-help-your-body-heal#comments

Uncategorized

Did you know there are over 14,000 chemicals put in our food, the air, water, household products, personal care products, etc.?Many of these are big players in endocrine disruption. It is impossible to get away from them. One of the primary goals of following a “gut health diet” is to improve the ratio of “good guy” bacteria (also called probiotics) to the “bad guy” microbes living in your gastrointestinal tract.

How can you increase good bacteria in your gut naturally? By eating more of the best foods that foster the growth of friendly bacteria while supporting overall gut health.
Gut-friendly foods — such as vegetables, bone broth, grass-fed meats, probiotic foods and sprouted seeds— help to “feed” probiotics in the gut, supply essential nutrients that support a healthy gut lining, and support nutrient absorption and healthy elimination.
Let’s look closer at what a healthy gut diet plan entails, plus foods you’ll want to remove from your diet in order to support an overall healthy gut.

Best Gut-Friendly Foods

What the best foods for gut health have in common is that they are typically whole, unprocessed foods, which means the body usually easily recognizes and digests them. They’re also full of beneficial nutrients, enzymes and phytochemical compounds that help to build and support the health of the gut lining, which is essential for healthy digestion and overall healthy immune system function.

Here are some of the best foods to include in a gut health diet:

1. Probiotic foods
Fermented (or cultured) foods such as sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir, kimchi, miso and kombucha are superfoods for gut health because they naturally introduce a diverse amount of healthy bacteria into your gut.
While taking a daily probiotic supplement is a convenient way to boost your intake of beneficial bacteria, probiotic foods also have a place in a healthy diet since they are a natural source of microbes, vitamins, minerals and enzymes.

Probiotic foods may also contain a wider variety of bacterial strains compared to many supplements, such as kefir for example which contains dozens of different types.

2. Prebiotic foods
Prebiotics are compounds that are not digested by the body, but instead are metabolized and used as fuel by beneficial bacteria in the microbiome. They can help to support the overall health of the body by fostering growth of probiotics. And since they are a source of fiber, they’re generally also helpful for supporting healthy bowel transit time by reducing occasional constipation and diarrhea.

Some of the best sources of prebiotics include raw veggies, whole grains and leafy greens. Try including these prebiotics in your meals: raw onions, raw garlic, leeks, asparagus, jicama, dandelion greens, chicory, artichokes and burdock root.

3. Bone Broth
Bone broth is a traditional type of stock that is made by slow-simmering animal bones in water, sometimes along with chicken feet, joint tissue, cartilage, vegetables and herbs.

Collagen is a type of protein that’s found in real bone broth; it’s made up of amino acids including proline, arginine and glycine that help to generally support healthy connective tissues throughout the body, including those in the gut.

Chicken bone broth, as well as high-quality Bone Broth Protein supplements made from chicken, also naturally contain compounds including glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid (which support overall healthy cartilage and joint health), in addition to minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus that are important for digestive health, healthy muscle and nerve functions, and beyond.

4. Vegetables
Veggies are full of antioxidants, fiber and other nutrients that can help fight against free radicals and boost digestive health, and help to keep connective tissues in the gut in good shape.

Some of the best include: dark leafy greens (collard greens, kale, spinach), beets, carrots, cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and kale), sea vegetables, mushrooms and squashes.

5. Fruits (especially berries/cooked fruits)
Like vegetables, certain fruits can provide you with antioxidants, vitamin C and vitamin A, fiber and other beneficial nutrients.

Good options include cooked pears and apples, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, cherries, nectarines, oranges, grapefruits, kiwi and pomegranates.

6. Healthy fats
In order to properly absorb fat-soluble vitamins (including vitamins D, E and K) you need to include fats in your diet. Healthy fats or performance fats such as grass-fed butter, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, and avocado also play a role in supporting healthy, normal hormone production and keeping your appetite in check by making you feel fuller, which means sticking to an overall healthy diet might be easier.

7. High-quality proteins
Wild-caught fish, cage-free eggs and grass-fed/pasture-raised meat are some of the best sources of amino acids that support a healthy gut lining and fuel many other bodily processes.

Some of these protein foods, such as salmon and beef, also provide omega-3 fatty acids that support an overall healthy cardiovascular system and more.

In addition to providing you with protein, these foods are high in healthy fats, and essential nutrients like zinc, selenium and B vitamins which generally support a healthy immune system, healthy energy levels and metabolic health.

8. Sprouted nuts and seeds
Nuts and seeds (such as almonds, walnuts, and pumpkin, and flax, chia and hemp seeds) are a great source of healthy fats, fiber, protein and trace minerals for vegans, flexitarians, paleo dieters and just about everyone else.

Soaking and sprouting nuts and seeds helps to make their nutrients more bioavailable, and often leads to them being easier to digest overall.

9. Herbs, spices and teas
These include antioxidant-rich spices such as turmeric, ginger, basil, oregano, thyme, etc., plus green tea and organic coffee in moderation.

Herbs and spices, (which can be enjoyed fresh, dried or in herbal tea/infusions) have many digestive benefits to offer, such as supporting an overall healthy immune system, stimulating normal saliva and bile production, and soothing the stomach.

10. Sprouted whole grains
Certain whole grains, such as oats, contain beta glucan, a type of fiber that generally helps feed healthy gut microbes and that can contribute to other health perks, too, such as supporting healthy cardiovascular function.

For the most gut-related benefits, gluten-free grains such as quinoa, buckwheat and rice may be best for most people, since gluten (a protein in wheat, barley and rye) can sometimes be difficult to break down.

Worst Foods for Gut Health Now that you know which gut-friendly foods to emphasize in your diet, let’s talk about those that should be avoided.

To help support healthy gut flora, limit or avoid the following worst foods for gut health:

1. Foods with added sugar
Sugar is found in the majority of packaged snacks, condiments, cereals, etc., not to mention desserts and sugary drinks. Consuming added sugar regularly can contribute to an imbalance of yeast and microbes in the gut.

2. Trans fats/hydrogenated fats
These man-made fats are added to many packaged/processed foods, fast food and fried foods. Not only can they be hard to digest, but they’re now known to negatively impact overall weight and metabolism.

3. Refined vegetable oils (like canola, corn and soybean oils)
Processed vegetable oils are high in omega-6 fatty acids, which most people eating a “Western diet” are thought to already get enough of.

Another issue is that when they are cooked with, their chemical composition changes in a negative way. Why not see the obvious, the big picture? Remember the saying, “You are what you eat?”

It’s so true.

People do not get “heart burn,” asthma, fatigue, constipation, and many other symptoms because they are deficient in medication. These problems occur because something went wrong in the body. Poor food, chemicals, and drugs can change the enzymes in the body. Then, they go on to change the chemistry and hormones until finally you get a physiologic change and you have symptoms. Add medication to control the symptoms, and your health issue is left to manifest in another way, causing more malfunction.

We have become a nation of fast medicine for every ailment. This is a good approach if you break your leg or are having a heart attack. For chronic health problems, it is a poor choice. Royal Lee — the founder of Standard Process and a great scientist and inventor — once said,

“One of the biggest tragedies of human civilization is the precedence of chemical therapy over natural, of poison over food, in which we are feeding people poisons, trying to correct the reactions of starvation.”

Almost any health problem can be traced back to nutritional deficiency and chemical overload. All whole food nutrients have a purpose. Every function in your body needs specific nutrients to make it work. Poor food choices over time create weaknesses in organs, glands, bones, brain, and the immune system. These food challenges can change your genes. Then you pass them on to your children. Unfortunately, kids are having health problems even earlier these days.

So, these chronic headaches, joint pain, bloating, fatigue, asthma, allergies, constipation, insomnia, etc., didn’t happen overnight. They developed as your physiology deteriorated. They are symptoms. Symptoms are an after-effect of body malfunction. Your body is talking to you. It’s saying, “I need help. Feed me better. Help me heal.”

Healing doesn’t come from a drug.

Can you see the big picture?

Natural Pain Relievers

https://www.drtedhill.com/blogs/natural-pain-relievers

https://www.drtedhill.com/blogs/natural-pain-relievers#comments

Uncategorized

Natural Interventions for Pain ReliefWe have over-the-counter and prescription medications available to treat pain. Unfortunately, many of these medications come with a price. That price can be serious long-term side effects or even addiction.
There are many natural products that can alleviate your pain. Some of these natural interventions work as well, or better, than pills from your local pharmacy. Here are three natural products that are shown to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain.

Turmeric Curcumin

Curcumin is a natural pain reliever found in the roots of the turmeric plant. Traditionally used in Indian Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine; it reduces the inflammation and pain of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. This natural pain reliever is also shown to inhibit the formation of cancer cells and enhance liver function.

This turmeric root extract works by blocking the cytokines and enzymes responsible for inflammation. Curcumin’s been shown to be as effective at reducing pain and inflammation as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

High doses will act as a blood thinner and may cause stomach upset, so it should be avoided by anyone taking a blood thinning medication or pregnant.

Boswellia

This herbal extract from the Boswellia serrata tree is available in pill, cream or resin form. Studies show that Boswellic acid is effective for the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease.

Boswellic acid also prevents the formation of leukotrienes in the body. Leukotrienes can trigger asthma symptoms by balancing the immune system to keep it from overreacting to environmental allergens.

The Arthritis Foundation recommends 300-400 mg three times per day of a product containing 60 percent boswellic acids. This herbal supplement can decrease the effectiveness or interact with other anti-inflammatory medications. Before starting any herbal therapy, it is best to consult with your physician.

CBD Oil
CBD oil(cannabidiol oil) is extracted from hemp or cannabis plants. Industrial hemp typically has a higher CBD content than cannabis. CBD has been used for centuries to treat pain and inflammation, but has not been studied by the medical community until recently.

CBD is not psychoactive. It does not alter a person’s state of mind or produce the “high” that marijuana does. CBD oil works by influencing the body to utilize it’s own naturally occurring endocannabinoids effectively.

CBD also prevents the absorption of anandamide, a compound associated with pain regulation. Since anandamide is not absorbed, levels increase in the bloodstream. Increasing anandamide in the bloodstream reduces how much pain is felt.

CBD is also shown to reduce inflammation, calm anxiety, treat insomnia and calm the muscle spasms associated with multiple sclerosis(MS). Most testing of the effectiveness of CBD for pain have been conducted on laboratory animals, but results are promising. The risk of potential side effects appears to be much lower than many pharmaceutical medications.

If you would like to be be tested for Turmeric Curcumin, Boswellia or CBD, give our office a call! 330-386-1111
